Instructions for submitting abstracts to the
SLMDA Spring Scientific Meeting
Thank you for submitting abstracts to the SLMDA Spring Scientific Meeting. The meeting will be from 9 am to 2 pm on the 28th of May. The general theme for this year is ‘Cerebrovascular and Cardiovascular disease’. There will be four guest lectures by experts on this topic and several Junior presentations. The format of the meeting is as follows:
- 4-6 Oral presentations (10 min presentation of PowerPoint slides, 4 min for questions)
- 8-12 Poster presentations
- The best E-poster; an innovation this year (Open ONLY to Authors from overseas, including Sri Lanka). See below for details.
Please adhere to the following instructions for your abstract to be considered:
- You will need to submit two documents, an Abstract form and an Anonymised Abstract text. This applies to E-posters as well
- Please complete them using Times New Roman font 10 size.
- Please be aware that your submission will NOT be considered if you fail to submit both
- Please name the Abstract form in the following format:- First name (lower case), SURNAME (upper case)- the title of your abstract (e.g. Supul, HENNAYAKE- Mysteries of life)
- Please also save the abstract text alone as a separate document and name it just by the title (e.g. We’ll never walk alone). This is the Anonymised abstract text which will be assessed by the three members of the scientific committee.
- Please send these two documents, abstract form and abstract text, to [email protected] before the closing date – Saturday 15th of April 2023.
Selection criteria:
- Quality of the presentation- Higher marks for completed studies with clear methodology, good
analytic approach and results relating to the intended aim.
2. Importance of the study- Significant scientific contribution to the field.
3. Novelty/originality/interesting idea/ Interesting case report
4. Relevance- to the SLMDA (overseas/external support to Sri Lanka, either positive or negative)
The anonymised abstracts will be assessed by the selection committee, which has the final decision on whether to accept your submission and also decide on the most suitable presentation type if accepted. Abstracts will be published in the “Proceedings book”, which you can cite. The Founders’ prize and runner-up prizes will be awarded to both oral and poster presentations by the judging panel.
E-poster section
Only authors from overseas, including Sri Lanka, can submit abstracts for this section. Selection will be based on the same criteria as above. Once an abstract is selected, the author can send an E-poster in PDF format, which will appear on the SLMDA UK website. They will also be published in the abstract book. The best abstract as selected by the judges, will be converted into a physical poster after the PDF is received and displayed at the scientific session and awarded a prize.
