SLMDA UK Open Poetry Competition 2025

We are thrilled to announce the SLMDA Open Poetry Competition 2025, open to all aspiring poets worldwide.

Let your creativity shine while contributing to a meaningful cause!

All submissions should be emailed to [email protected] as PDF or WORD documents

Competition Guidelines

Language Categories:

  • Sinhala
  • Tamil
  • English

All entries will fall under one general category per language

Who can enter:

  • No age restrictions
  • No geographical limitations
  • Entries are welcome from anywhere in the world

Charity Contribution:

  • £5 per poem submitted (Multiple entries allowed – £5 each)

Poem Submission Requirements

Please submit each poem as a Word document or PDF, including the following information clearly

  • Author’s full name
  • Age
  • Title of the poem
  • Author’s full postal address
  • Author’s Contact Email address

Key Dates

  • Submissions open: 1st July 2025
  • Deadline for submissions: 11:59 PM, 30th September 2025
  • Late entries will not be considered.

Awards & Recognition

Winners (per language category):

  • 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will receive a valuable certificate and gift vouchers
  • Winning poems will be featured on the SLMDA website for one year.

Special Recognition

  • The Top 25 poems (with author names and poem titles) will be listed in a document and uploaded to our website.

Use of Funds

All proceeds from the competition will support SLMDA’s charitable initiatives in Sri Lanka, including projects in education, and healthcare development.

Additional Notes

  • All submissions must be original and unpublished
  • Winners will be announced via email and on official SLMDA platforms.
