Two amendments to the constitution (subject to approval by the UK Charity Commissioners) is tabled at the AGM. They are explained below:The current Constitution of the SLMDA (as amended in 1991,2000 & 2006) has the following:
Charitable objects:
- To advance and assist undergraduate medical and dental education of the universities of Sri Lanka
- TO PROMOTE PUBLIC AWARENESS IN RESPECT OF THE EDUCATIONAL NEEDS OF MEDICAL AND DENTAL UNDERGRADUATES OF SRI LANKAN UNIVERSITIES
- To promote and advise on postgraduate training opportunities in the UK for medical and dental graduates of Sri Lankan universities
- To promote and encourage formation and affiliation of groups whose objects and criteria for membership are the same as this organisation
- In the event of extraordinary circumstances brought about by a large scale natural or man- made tragedy in Sri Lanka, the Association will take such action as necessary to contribute its expertise in medicine, dentistry and health care provision to disaster management and alleviation of suffering of the people affected (See constitution for further details)
The proposed amendments for ratification at the AGM on 30th April 2011 are:
- Deletion of No 2 ( highlighted in CAPS)
- Addition of a new Object as given below:
